On February 7, actor Yudai Chiba and artist Yuuchami from Tagajo City attended a commemorative event held in Tokyo to celebrate the beginning of a milestone year. On the 7th, an event was held in Tokyo to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the founding of Taga Castle, a special national historic site. Actor Yudai Chiba, originally from Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture and the city’s eternal ambassador for romance, visited and celebrated his hometown’s anniversary together. Yudai Chiba: “I think the 1300th (Foundation) will be wonderfully greeted with the soulful sound of the gong.” Taga Castle is considered one of Japan’s top three historical sites, along with Heizokyo Ruins in Nara Prefecture and Dazaifu Ruins in Fukuoka Prefecture. It was founded in 724 AD during the Nara period and turns 1300 years old this year. Yuchami, a talented person who loves history and is good at writing haiku, was also present at the event. Dressed in the “Tenpyo costume” of the Nara period, he recited a poem on the theme of “Taga Castle”. Yuchami: “I chose Hatsuharuni because it’s my favorite city that even girls want to go to.” I wanted to make the castle my favorite, so I posed with Yuchi for the photo shoot, Mr. Chiba decided. Yudai Chiba: “(When I returned home) I saw the South Gate being built, and my family and I were walking around and talking about when it would be completed, so I’m looking forward to its completion, so I would definitely like to visit the prefecture Miyagi and the city of Tagajo. Restoration work on the ruins of Taga Castle will continue until March 2026, but the city plans to open parts of it, including the southern gate, to the public around November this year.
