Tohoku Electric Power began work on “loading” nuclear fuel into the reactor on the 3rd in preparation for the restart of Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant. The fuel loading, which began at 15:00 on the 3rd, is the first stage of work to be carried out on the reactor in preparation for its restart, and involves moving 560 fuel assemblies into the reactor vessel using a special machine. According to Tohoku Electric Power, the work will last about a week, and they plan to release progress information to the press on the 6th of this month. Tohoku Electric Power plans to restart Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant around November this year, and if it starts up, it will be the first nuclear power plant damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
