Descriptions:
On November 8, damage was discovered to the pantograph of the Tohoku Shinkansen train, and a 1.2-meter-long metal armature was found to have fallen near Furukawa Station due to a malfunction, leading to the suspension of operations. No injuries were confirmed. The problem occurred around 12:30 p.m. on November 8 when damage was discovered to the Hayabusa pantograph No. 19 of the Tohoku Shinkansen train at Ichinoseki Station in Iwate Prefecture. About three hours later, all Tohoku Shinkansen lines resumed service, but 14 trains, including the Akita Shinkansen, were suspended. According to JR East, the damaged pantograph was missing a portion of the pickpocket board that contacts the overhead wire and conducts electricity, and when the overhead wire was inspected, it was found that between Furukawa and Kurikoma-Kogen stations in Miyagi Prefecture, damage to the metal fittings was found. In two of these locations, about 2 kilometers from Furukawa Station, two rod-shaped metal fittings, 1.2 meters long and weighing 1.5 kilograms, fell outside the premises. JR East says no injuries have been confirmed as a result of the fall and that they will continue to investigate the cause.
