Descriptions:
Winter illuminations are held along a row of cherry blossom trees along the Shiroishi River, known as Hitome Senbonzakura. Hitome Senbonzakura is one of the most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Miyagi Prefecture. About 1,200 Yoshino cherry trees bloom along the Shiroishi River embankment, which stretches for about 8 kilometers. This spectacular view, which can only be seen in spring, can also be seen in winter thanks to the illumination of the cherry blossoms. The cherry blossom illumination in Ogawara began on December 6th. It was planned by local junior high school students and has been running since 2017 with the goal of “making it a tourist attraction all year round, even when the cherry blossoms are not in bloom.” 75,000 LED lights are attached to 38 cherry trees, creating a winter cherry blossom scene. Beautiful cherry blossoms decorate the surface of the river at night. Visitor: “It’s so beautiful.” The Ogawa Cherry Blossom Illumination will run until February 2, 2025, with illumination hours from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
