Descriptions:
On the 22nd, bereaved families held a storytelling tour at Okawa Elementary School in Ishinomaki City, where 84 children and teachers died in the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Since 2016, the Okawa Densho Association, made up of grieving family members and local residents, has regularly provided storytelling guides at Okawa Elementary School, in the remnants of the Ishinomaki City earthquake, and on the 22nd, about 30 people from inside and outside the prefecture participated. This is Toshiro Sato, who lost his second daughter Mizuho, who was in 6th grade at that time. Toshiro Sato: “Disasters do not happen at special times or in special places.” Usually the storytelling guides spend time looking at the damaged school buildings, but due to the rain on the 22nd, we hurriedly went to the folklore museum for Mr. Sato to talk about the situation on the day of the earthquake and the importance of preventing natural disasters. Toshiro Sato: “The ultimate goal we are moving towards through disaster prevention is not fear, but hope. If we do nothing, fear will remain fear and sadness will repeat itself. I want this to be an opportunity to prevent natural disasters. on hope, not fear.” Visitors: “I once again realized the importance of advance preparation to prevent natural disasters.” “Adults can make strong decisions and take action. It is important to acquire the ability to act and make decisions. .” The next Storytellers Guide will be released in October. It is scheduled to take place on the 27th.
