On the 17th, footage of the joint training of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the French Army, which has been going on since September 8th and is based on counter-guerrilla operations, was shown to the press. This training is aimed at improving skills in fighting guerrillas and special forces and strengthening relations with the French Army, and it is being held in Japan for the first time. On the 17th, urban guerrilla warfare training was held at the Ojo Terahara training ground. During the training, the French Army stormed a building where they believed the hostages were being held, using cover fire from the Self-Defense Forces. Once the building was secured, the Self-Defense Forces rescue team entered the building and safely rescued the hostages within minutes. General Fumio Fujioka, Commander of the 9th Division of the Ground Self-Defense Force: “Based on the results obtained during this training, we will continue to conduct further training and contribute to the improvement of the tactical skills of the Ground Self-Defense Force. Brigadier General Valentin Seiler, Commander of the 6th Light Armored Brigade, French Army: “I am pleased that the success of this exercise has laid the foundation for even more ambitious cooperation between Japan and France.” The joint exercise will begin on the 18th. move to the Iwate Mountain Training Area in Iwate Prefecture and will continue until the 20th of this month.
