Minami Sendai Station is used by 9,000 people per day, making it the third-busiest JR station in Sendai City. A gala event was held on September 10 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the business’s opening. The current “Minami Sendai Station” opened as “Rikuzen-Nakata Station” on September 10, 1924, 100 years ago. On the 10th, JR East representatives and residents near the station gathered to unveil window films designed by local elementary school students to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the station’s opening. Announcer Sakura Takahashi: “In honor of our 100th anniversary of business, many people are lining up today to receive commemorative certificates. The end of the line extends to the other side of the turn.” The commemorative certificate in the form of a ticket is limited to 1,000 pieces. Those who came received them one by one. On the 10th, the sightseeing train “SATONO”, which debuted in April this year, arrived at Minami Sendai Station. “SATONO” runs between Sendai and Yamagata in October and November. Visitors were able to enjoy the special day early, checking out the inside of the train and taking photos of children posing as station masters. Boy: “It was cool.” Mother: “I was happy because I got to see some cool cars, and my son had a lot of fun.” Masashi Ono, Marketing Department Manager at JR East Tohoku Headquarters, ” “We are working to improve various services so that they are easier to use.” I want to continue building the next 100 years together with the local community.”
