During the expedition, it was his job to save the lives of his brothers and sisters in arms. When he returned from Iraq, he found himself feeling alone and out of place, angry at people who would not understand him, suffering from PTSD and nightmares, and on the verge of suicide. Now it was his life that had to be saved. Blade looked for a pet for the vet and found DD. He claimed it saved him from being just a statistic.
