On the morning of the 12th, 80 of the 222 bigeye tuna caught were certified as Higashimono. The highest price at the first auction was 6,000 yen per kilogram. Shiogama City Fisheries Development Council Chairman Naoya Shiga said, “I think that from now until December, we will be able to offer everyone delicious tuna with beautiful flesh, sweetness, and fat.” A Higashimono tasting will be held on site, and nigiri sushi was served. A junior high school student who participated in the tasting on behalf of his school said, “This is truly the most delicious sushi I’ve ever eaten.” The unloaded tuna will be sent to markets in the prefecture and Tokyo.
