Miyagi Prefectural Police completed investigations into five Vietnamese men arrested on suspicion of burglary in Sendai’s Izumi district in June this year and released evidence on December 13. Reporter: “The men used gas torches to break the glass and commit the crime.” Gas torches and screwdrivers were shown to the public. According to police, five suspects attacked empty houses. Five Vietnamese men, aged between 25 and 32, were arrested, charged and have already appeared in court in some cases, including Phan Duc Thai (27), who is unemployed and of no permanent residence. In June this year, all five were arrested on suspicion of breaking into an empty house in the Izumi area and stealing paper bags containing 100 yen. Police were also investigating whether they may have committed other crimes. As a result, police confirmed 121 cases in which five people were suspected of breaking into empty houses in seven prefectures, including Miyagi Prefecture, and stealing cash and precious metals between February and June this year. On the 13th, the police sent the investigation materials of the latest incident to the prosecutor’s office. The total damage was approximately 13.16 million yen in market value.
