The Tohoku Miyagi Recovery Marathon is a full-fledged marathon that runs through municipalities along the coast of Miyagi Prefecture to help people recover from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Last year, nearly 11,000 runners from across the country took part. Since 2017, when the tournament was first held, Sendai Broadcasting Corporation, which organizes the tournament, has been donating “disaster mitigation and disaster prevention PR machines” to disaster-affected local governments in the prefecture that can be used for training prevention of natural disasters and during a disaster. This year, Natori City received a Toyota Sienta, which is produced at a plant in the prefecture. Natori City Mayor Shiro Yamada: “We don’t know what form disasters will take in the future.
