For my 65th birthday, we took a short trip down to Phetchaburi for a relaxing beachfront escape — and what a surprise it turned out to be.
After the usual challenge of convincing Chanya to actually take time off work, we hit the road with the GPS showing just over two hours’ travel time. A quick petrol stop, a simple Thai breakfast, and we continue south — Chanya still recovering slightly from the previous night’s celebrations.
We arrive at Menao Beach House, a beachfront pool villa literally sitting on the sand. This stay was actually a birthday gift from one of our viewers, and it turns out to be far larger than expected — multiple rooms, space for 16–20 guests, and family-friendly throughout.
I take a full tour of the villa, check out the beachfront, test the ocean water, and we spend the afternoon enjoying the quiet surroundings before heading into the nearby town of Chao Samran Beach, a surprisingly sleepy coastal area that feels almost untouched by tourism.
After a quick supply run at 7-Eleven and picking up a simple takeaway dinner, we settle in for a relaxed evening by the beach, enjoying the sea air, a glass of wine, and the local wildlife — including a few enthusiastic geckos hunting insects around the lights.
The next morning brings high tide right up to the retaining wall — a reminder of just how close the villa sits to the water — followed by another quick tour, a price reveal (starting around 10,000 baht per night), and the inevitable conversation about coming back with a group next time.
A quiet birthday, a hidden Thai beach town, and a genuinely memorable stay.
