Friday Night Funkin’ (stylized as FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN’ and often abbreviated to FNF) is an open-source donationware rhythm game first released in 2020 for a game jam. The game was developed by a team of four Newgrounds users, Cameron “ninjamuffin99” Taylor, David “PhantomArcade” Brown, Isaac “Kawai Sprite” Garcia, and evilsk8r. The game shares some gameplay features with Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper and borrows aesthetic influences from Flash games. The game has been credited with driving users back to Newgrounds, a site whose popularity peaked in the early 2000s.
The Mandela Catalogue is a YouTube analog horror series created by Alex Kister that takes place in the fictional Mandela County in Pennsylvania, after it has suddenly become haunted by the ‘Alternates’, demons that are capable of changing their shape in order to resemble other people, as well as using psychological techniques to induce their victims to commit suicide. The series gained popularity in 2021 after a number of YouTubers posted videos covering it. As of July 2022, the series has 9 videos consisting of 3 “volumes.” An indie game inspired by the series was created, titled Maple County.
Talking Tom & Friends (known as Talking Friends until late 2014, and Talking Tom and Friends until early 2021) is a media franchise created and owned by Outfit7 Limited, a Slovenian video game developer. The franchise focuses on various mobile apps involving anthropomorphic animal characters repeating things said by the user. The first app, Talking Tom Cat, was launched in July 2010. As of June 2022, the apps have achieved more than 18 billion downloads. The franchise also includes various web series, which are mostly posted on YouTube.
