Descriptions:
“Today, I invited Luang Pu Suchin for all of us to pay respects,
to meet and see him, which is a truly great blessing.
Seeing a monastic is a supreme blessing,
especially one who truly embodies the life of a monastic.
When he was still a layman,
Luang Pu Suchin was once a disciple of Luang Pu Lui.
Later, he was ordained under Luang Pu Dune,
becoming Luang Pu Dune’s disciple.
With great determination, he practiced meditation,
serving as a true example of a genuine spiritual warrior.
When he was ordained, he fought with himself, not with others.
Some who ordain end up contending with others,
competing or striving for worldly things,
and they receive the results accordingly.
But those who fight with themselves
reap the fruits of their inner struggle, just as he has.
At that time, I had not yet been ordained.
I first met Luang Pu Suchin in 1983
at one of Luang Pu Dune’s branch monasteries.
Upon seeing him, I realized he was steadfast,
resolute, and determined in his self-discipline.
At one time, there was a period when he stayed in Pathum Thani,
in an open rice field with nothing but a small hut and bare ground.
I went to pay my respects to him.
When I arrived at Luang Pu Suchin’s place, I was astonished.
He was walking meditation under the scorching midday sun.
His skin was peeling in layers from being burned by the sun.
When I saw him in that condition, I exclaimed
“Oh, Luang Pi, how come your practice can be so hard?
Why endure so much suffering in your practice?”
He then replied,
“I will suffer to overcome suffering and that one day I will no longer suffer”.
That was such a profound statement.
Luang Pu endured suffering willingly so that one day he would be free from it.
While in our case, we fear suffering and constantly seek happiness,
which only leads us to more suffering and no way out of it.”
