We asked 2507 writers to contribute to our contest, and this story took first place. It is a lesbian romance-turned-tragedy that ripped our hearts out and left us reeling. We stand in firm support of the LGBTQ+ community, and 50% of our adsense proceeds from this video will be donated to The Trevor Project, with the other 50% going directly to the author of the short story.
About the author, k.d. calignox: “I love writing! Ranging from movie length screenplays to short stories, I adore storytelling and creativity; I even love language arts. English classes interested me since elementary school, and writing presents itself in every aspect of my life. I like to immerse myself within a story and often get overwhelmed with too much excitement for them, specifically storytelling in movies. I’m inspired by a writer’s ability to create a story that captivates its viewer, which in turn motivates me to write pieces I’m excited and passionate about. I typically write horror or psychological thrillers, but I’m trying to expand my abilities! Writing is my passion, and I’d love to share my work(s) with anyone willing to read them!”
About the story: “When Sparks Emerge”; Each character is a metaphor representing a different phenomena of weather. Eric represents thunder; loud, forceful, and unexpected. Anya represents lightning; bright, shocking, and quiet. Delilah represents sunshine; radiant, rejuvenating, and warm. My inspiration is correlating each character to their own theme and loosely basing their personalities/behaviors on them.
